We are the 4 Brownies; Jamie, Judy (Ware), Dalena, and D'Lee and we live on Cedar Creek Lake in beautiful East Texas. This site is dedicated to my daughters and to my grandfather George Thomas Voss.
All four of my grandparents were deceased by the time I was 12 years old and the "not knowing" bothered me tremendously. I am also the youngest grandchild and the only granddaugher on either side of my family so what started out as a sense of obligation has turned into a wonderful and rewarding adventure.
My grandfather, George Thomas Voss b. 1899, was the last of my grandparents to pass away and naturally the one that I remember best. I remember a gentle man who every single weekend entertained me by letting me ride his riding lawn mower, playing dominos with me and watching Saturday Night Wrestling always choosing the "bad" guy to hoot and hollar for so I could have the "good" guy.
I wish that I had asked more questions and listened more closely to his tales of long ago. I have learned during my research of a man who lead an interesting and very hard life at times, a life I would of known nothing of if I hadn't started researching. He was forced to quit school in the 3rd grade to haul water at the local brick yard after his father was accidently killed in a train accident. At the age of 17 he married a young woman and a year later she died in childbirth and he was left to care for an infant son alone and work in the oil fields to make a living.
As my research progresses so does my love for a man I knew as "Pop." He was tall, thin, had a crooked smile, and great big ears that stuck straight out and I loved him dearly. He made me laugh, let me cheat in dominos and helped me find my Easter Eggs. I will never forget him.
